FIND joins EDMA
Reinforcing its objective to promote the development of new and affordable tools that are urgently needed to fight poverty-related diseases, FIND became in January 2007 a member of the European Diagnostic Manufacturers Association (EDMA), the trade association representing the In Vitro Diagnostic (IVD) companies active in Europe.
With FIND, five other companies joined EDMA as Corporate Associate Members (CAMs), namely BioSystems SA, Diagnostica Stago, Innogenetics, Luminex Corporation, Orion Diagnostica and Tecan. This status notably applies to major companies that are engaged, either themselves or through affiliated companies, in research, development manufacture or distribution of in vitro diagnostic products in Europe. There are now 26 such companies within EDMA, including Abbott, Bayer, BD, Biomérieux, Biosystems, and Roche Diagnostics.
“FIND’s membership in EDMA is an important milestone,” said Giorgio Roscigno, CEO of FIND. “EDMA is the key association representing IVD manufacturers, and as such is a critical arena for FIND, whose strategy is based on public-private partnership, to interact with IVD companies, large and small, working in Europe as well as in various regions of the world.”
Located in Brussels, EDMA also has 20 National Association Members in European countries. Through its affiliated National Associations, EDMA represents in total more than 550 companies (or over 1000 legal entities) across Europe. The association, which believes that correct and early diagnosis is the key to effective health care in the long term, also collaborates with international trade associations representing medical devices, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology in general, as well as with scientific societies and patient’s organizations.
