Baroness Lynda Chalker of Wallasey of Africa Matters Limited visits FIND

Chairman of Africa Matters Limited, Baroness Lynda Chalker of Wallasey and Chief Operations Officer, Debbie Goldthorpe, visited FIND on 22 January 2007 to better familiarize themselves with the work of the Foundation and to explore future collaboration opportunities. Baroness Chalker herself has several links in the healthcare sector in Africa and has taken a close interest in this area of development.

They met with FIND CEO Giorgio Roscigno and Senior Policy Officer, Vinand Nantulya and discussed FIND’s approach to the development of new diagnostic tools for poverty-related diseases in developing countries.

The Baroness was particularly impressed by FIND’s efforts and accomplishments in the short period it has been in existence. She welcomed FIND’s move to open an office in Uganda to explore together with the Government and other partners mechanisms for strengthening the laboratory services both in the public and the private sectors.

Following this first meeting with FIND, Baroness Lynda Chalker will explore opportunities for the private sector to participate in the laboratory strengthening project.

Established in 1997 by Chairman Baroness Lynda Chalker of Wallasey, the main objective of Africa Matters Limited, is to assist companies conduct effective business in Africa. The company has offices in London and Johannesburg, and also has associates across Africa. In addition to collaborating closely with African governments to help stimulate trade and investment, Africa Matters Limited’s works to manage positively the interface between the public and private sectors.
