FIND is pleased to
announce that in September 2006, Dr. Madhu
Pai joins FIND as a consultant for latent TB
infection (LTBI) diagnostics. In this capacity, he
will provide technical and epidemiologic expertise
in support of evaluation and demonstration projects
of interferon-gamma release assays (IGRAs). These
projects include studies to evaluate the performance
of the QuantiFERON TB-Gold assay for the diagnosis
of LTBI in selected high-risk groups and
demonstration studies to assess the utility of IGRAs
in public health settings in medium- and low-income
countries.
Background:
Dr. Pai did his
medical training and community medicine residency in
India. In 2004, he completed his PhD in epidemiology
at the University of California, Berkeley, where his
doctoral dissertation research was focused on
evaluation of new tests for TB diagnosis. Between
2005 and 2006, he worked at the University of
California, San Francisco (UCSF), as a post-doctoral
fellow.
After completing his
fellowship, Dr. Pai joined the faculty of McGill
University, Montreal, in July 2006, as an assistant
professor of epidemiology, and assistant director
for global health research at the Research Institute
of the McGill University Health Centre. In his
research, Dr. Pai combines three major areas of
interest: epidemiology, infectious diseases, and
global health. His current research program covers
epidemiological and clinical research on TB,
synthesis of evidence on TB, evaluation of novel
diagnostic and prognostic tools for global TB
control, and nosocomial transmission of TB.
