In 1968, Mr. Ramaswamy Narayanaswamy received his Degree in Pharmacy from Madras University, India. After graduation, he worked as a manufacturing chemist in a reputed Indian pharmaceutical company in Chennai, gaining extensive experience in various pharmaceutical formulations, including parenteral preparations. At the end of five years, he began working for the Government of India, and for the next 33 years served in various capacities for the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) under India’s Ministry of Health.
During his tenure at the CDSCO, he held a number of posts, such as Inspector of Drugs and Cosmetics, Assistant Drugs Controller and Deputy Drugs Controller. Mr. Narayanaswamy was responsible for bringing into force the regulatory and GMP requirements for in vitro diagnostic products as well as blood bank and blood products in India, and also played an important role with respect to their import regulations. He conducted various workshops for Regulatory Personnel in State Government through WHO-funded programs. He also received training with the US FDA and TGA Australia for 3 months in Regulatory requirements for medical devices like IVD products.
After retiring from the Government, he continued working as technical consultant to the Drugs Controller General of India in the field of import of medical devices. In March 2008, he joined FIND (India) as a consultant for Regulatory Affairs.
