Dr. Yamuna Mundade received her medical degree from the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) in Pune, India. After completing her internship in Mumbai, she worked for 7 years as a Medical Officer in the Indian Defence services, visiting numerous remote regions of India before fulfilling her commission in 2001. She then joined India's Revised National TB Control Programme (RNTCP) as a consultant for the WHO India office. After a one-year period doing field supervisory work in the state of Uttar Pradesh, Dr. Mundade joined the Central TB Division of the Government of India in January 2003 as a WHO consultant.
Over the last 5 years, Dr. Mundade gained extensive experience in TB Programme management in the areas of DOTS Expansion, resource mobilisation and funding, programme evaluation, TB laboratory strengthening, project management - including financial management and procurement reporting - and establishment of systems for the management of drug-resistant TB. Dr. Mundade served on the writing committees of the RNTCP DOTS Plus guidelines, the RNTCP Laboratory Network guidelines for Quality Assurance of smear microscopy, the Programme Implementation Plan for World Bank and GFATM projects, and various RNTCP training modules for key health sector staff.
In 2007, Dr. Mundade participated as a team member in the fourth Joint Monitoring Mission of the National TB programme of Bangladesh and later in the year accepted a short-term consultancy for the WHO Country Office in Ethiopia under the aegis of the Federal Ministry of Health.
In February 2008, Dr. Yamuna Mundade joined FIND (India) as Medical Officer.
