Dr. Catharina Boehme

Dr. Catharina Boehme joined FIND at the end of 2005 from the Department of
Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine at the University of Munich. She
recently served as TB research clinician for the Mbeya Medical Research
Programme (MMRP), a partnership between the Mbeya Referral Hospital, the Mbeya
Regional Medical Office, the National Institute for Medical Research, Department
of Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine at University of Munich, and U.S.
Military HIV Research Program. At MMRP, Dr. Boehme was responsible for the
clinical evaluation of new tools for the diagnosis of TB.
At FIND, Dr. Boehme works with the Chief Scientific Officer and Head of Product
Development & Evaluation to assist in the supervision of clinical studies of
FIND technologies. This will include both focused clinical trials and
large-scale projects designed to measure the impact of implementation of new
diagnostics. Dr. Boehme’s responsibilities include the development of protocols
for field testing of diagnostic products, administration of performance
evaluations for large-scale demonstration projects, maintenance of
communications with various partners involved in such trials and assistance in
management of collation, analysis and publication of data from FIND clinical
studies.
Dr. Boehme has served as co-principal investigator and project coordinator for
the joint FIND/Chemogen evaluation study in Tanzania that involves testing of
the LAM-ELISA as a TB screening test in over 800 patients with symptoms of
pulmonary TB.
Dr. Boehme attended the Medical School at Heidelberg University and at Necker and
Pitié Salpétrière, Paris, followed by a thesis at the University of Ann Arbor.
She is participating in the European TropEd Master Program.
